Frequently asked questions

What is Google Consent Mode v2?

Consent Mode lets Google tags (GA4, Google Ads) adapt to the visitor’s consent state. With defaults set to denied, the tags send cookieless pings instead of setting identifiers, and switch to full measurement only after consent. V2 adds the ad_user_data and ad_personalization signals required for EEA audiences.

How do you check my setup?

We load your page in a real browser without touching the consent banner, then read the consent state the Google tag actually holds at runtime: the gtag("consent","default", ...) push in your data layer and the tag internals. This catches setups where the default is injected by GTM and invisible in the HTML.

What should the result look like?

For EEA traffic you generally want defaults found, set to denied before consent, together with a consent management platform that updates the state after the visitor chooses. Defaults not set to denied, or no default at all, means Google tags may run as if consent was given.

Consent Mode is one signal.
Tag Insight validates your whole consent and tracking setup, continuously.
