Installing the Tag Insight Chrome extension

Last updated on July 14, 2026

The Tag Insight Chrome extension is a companion to the web app that lets you check tracking directly in your browser, on any site you can open. It bundles three features: QA DataLayer, Audit My Ad Tech, and Reverse Tracking Plan. This guide walks you through installing it from the Chrome Web Store and signing in with your Tag Insight account.

Before you start

You need two things: a Chromium-based browser (Google Chrome or another browser that supports Chrome Web Store extensions) and a Tag Insight account. The extension requires you to sign in, so if you do not have an account yet, create one first. After signup and payment, a workspace and a first project are created for you automatically, and that is the account you will use in the extension.

You do not need a tag management system. The extension works without a TMS, so you can use it on sites with hard-coded tags, single-page apps, or sites you do not manage yourself.

Install from the Chrome Web Store

  1. 1

Open the Chrome Web Store in your browser.

  2. 2

Search for Tag Insight and open the extension page.

  3. 3

Click Add to Chrome, then confirm when Chrome asks you to add the extension.

  4. 4

Once installed, the Tag Insight icon appears in your browser toolbar. If you do not see it, click the puzzle-piece extensions icon and pin Tag Insight so it stays visible.

Sign in with your Tag Insight account

  1. 1

Click the Tag Insight icon in your toolbar to open the extension.

  2. 2

Sign in with the same credentials you use for the Tag Insight web app.

Signing in connects the extension to your workspace and project, so the checks you run in the browser line up with the definitions your team maintains in the app, such as the events, properties, and solutions stored in your Library.

What the extension can do

The extension gives you three features:

QA DataLayer: check the dataLayer of the pages you browse against your tracking plan, so you can spot missing events or wrong values while navigating the site like a real user.

Audit My Ad Tech: capture the marketing and ad-tech pixel requests fired while you browse (GA4, Didomi, Piano, and other solutions) and validate them against solution definitions, with a Presence rate to show how consistently each solution fires.

Reverse Tracking Plan: generate a tracking plan from an existing site. This is useful when you inherit a site with no documentation and want a starting point instead of writing a plan from scratch.

Next steps

With the extension installed and signed in, browse a few pages of your site and run your first check. To go further, open the Tag Insight web app: the Tracking plan module holds your plans and Audits, and the Audit my adtech module covers ad-tech validation in more depth.
